SCRC Funding Allocation for Pool

Thanks to Cr Jenny McKay’s tremendous efforts over the last couple weeks, the Sunshine Coast Regional Council passed a motion to give some financial support to the Maleny Swimming Club to enable the club to operate the pool in the out of school hours this swim season.

After over 25 years of continual fundraising in a very supportive community, it was becoming increasingly difficult for volunteers to spend all their time concentrating on just fundraising to keep the pool open.

With Council funding now approved, the Club can move forward, employ a coach/manager for our pool, and concentrate more on the kids in our Club.

The Maleny Swimming Club sincerely thanks all SCR councillors who supported funding for our pool.    Funding for all pools in the SCRC will now be reviewed by December, and hopefully this will bring more parity to the funding of sunshine coast pools.

As Club members begin pre-season training, two of our swimmers attended the Wide Bay Winter Short Course down on the Coast.

Natalie Weyman came 4th in the Women's 50m backstroke.    She could be the next Emily Seebohm at the Olympics in 2012!

Ella Martinkovic won the girls 8 years 50m Breaststroke and came third in the girls 8 years 50m Butterfly.   Ella also finished 4th in the Girls 8 years 50m Freestyle.

Maleny Swimming Club’s sign on will begin in early September with the date for the opening of the pool to be announced soon.  Watch for Club members to be up the main street outside the IGA handing out membership forms.

Now is the time to get your kids involved in a sport that has Fitness, Focus, Friends and Fun!  For more information contact President, Theresa Campbell, on 5429 6441
