Bill O'Chee - a man for all seasons

We're very pleased to announce that Bill O'Chee is to be the guest speaker at the 2013 Sports Awards Dinner.     You may well remember him as holding the distinction of being the youngest senator ever appointed to the Australian Senate, in 1990, aged just 24.

But not so widely known is his career as a keen sportsman.    O'Chee represented Australia in the sport of skeleton (similar to tobogganing) from 1989 to 2002 at World Cup and World Championship races.    He was the first Australian to achieve a "top half" finish in a world championship in bobsleigh, skeleton or luge. Other notable successes were wins at the International Guest Class of the British Championships in 1997, and the Engadine Grand Prix in St Moritz, Switzerland in 1998.

During his time at Oxford University, he coxed the Oxford University lightweight rowing crew in 1987, against Cambridge, and has coached in this sport in Australia.

Widely respected, Bill has served as a National Councillor for Scouting Australia, and been Patron of the Australian Chinese National Ex-Services Reunion, The Southport School Foundation, and Commercial Rowing Club in Brisbane.    The World Economic Forum named him as a Global Leader for Tomorrow in 1994.

He is known for his entertaining take on things and will be the perfect foil for the evening's MC, Simon Denver.   A night not just of awards to recognise our district's highest achievers, but with music from John Mays, and a superb dinner from Spaghetti Junction, the 2013 Sports Awards Dinner will be a night out for which you will definitely need to book.

Tickets on sale now at Maleny Mitre 10 Hardware Store $50.00 each. (Sports Awards Dinner: Saturday 13th April 6.00 pm Showgrounds Pavilion).
