Pyjama Cricket returns to Maleny

On Saturday 17th September at 9.30 am, two cricket teams will do battle wearing their best PJ’s in a Charity Cricket Match, battling each other in earnest to win the Maleny Golden Thong Award.

The inaugural match, played last year on the Aub Cork Oval, saw The Maleny Maulers do over Andrew Powell’s Celebrity Eleven - and all for a very good cause.

This year the match will be played on the Aub Cork Oval, Maleny Showgrounds on September 17th commencing at 9.30a.m.

Photo left Team Captains, Simon Denver and Andrew Powell fight over the trophy.

Last year, they raised $2,000.    The players asked friends, family and colleagues to sponsor their runs or make a donation, and all monies collected were donated to the National Pyjama Foundation.    (The Pyjama Foundation is a Brisbane based not-for-profit organisation committed to giving children in foster care the same opportunities in life as other children.)

This is seriously entertaining social cricket and definitely good spectator sport!    Hosted by MDSRC (who are running a barbeque and licensed bar) the event is sponsored by The Range News, who are also fielding players in Andrew Powell’s Celebrity Team.   Each year the Golden Thong Trophy, pictured below) will be played for with funds going to different charities.

See the Maleny Maulers full team list in this week’s newsletter... and watch out for Andrew’s Celebrity team names in next week’s edition.....

Sunny Coast Kids (see their advert this edition) are also holding their Family Fun Day same day on the other cricket oval, with jumping castles, face painting, kids crafts, activities, and lots more – a great family day out of cricket and fun for all ages!

So if you encounter players around town brandishing their runs form, please do give them a couple of dollars for the Pyjama Foundation and support the kids and this fun day of cricket.

Come along on 17th September and join “The Hill” at the Aub cork Oval, BYO chair or rug and don’t miss this entertaining sporting event at the Maleny Showgrounds; barbeque lunch and refreshments will be for sale on the day.
