Flood Lights for Flood Relief

Maleny’s Thespians and singers did Maleny proud over the last week-end, with the town’s three performance groups raising funds for Qld’s flood relief effort in their own inimitable style.

The Sunshine Coast Repertory Theatre showed why they have attracted such a healthy following, revving up the audience from the word go with their special blend of music and mayhem.

Madcap MC Simon Denver, fresh from his superb job at the Sportsman’s Dinner the previous week-end, linked their very funny sketches seamlessly into a mimed Wild Western comedy from the Maleny Players that had everything you’d expect - town sheriff, hootin’ tootin’ cowboys, saloon gals and a hero.

Margaret Taylor’s Maleny Singers completed the programme, raising the Pavilion roof with their beautiful renditions from famous opera’s to a tantalising preview of their upcoming Merry Widow production.

The concert ended appropriately with a heart rending finale of the New Zealand national anthem, and Margaret and the Singers leading everyone in an emotion-charged I Still Call Australia Home.

The Rotary Club of Maleny is handling all proceeds from the show, bar and kitchen ready to send to the fund.
