Some  Maleny  Rotary  Facts:

The Rotary Club of Maleny is a big part of our community life, each year supporting many local projects, including the Maleny Show, Relay for Life walk (cancer research), group study exchange, bike education at three local Primary Schools and holding their famous fortnightly "Sausage Sizzle".

The club also supports the Maleny based Friends of Ebenezer and directly, through Rotary Australia World Community Service ( RAWCS), the Ebenezer School for orphans in Livingstone, Zambia.   Contributions to RAWCS for the ongoing work  at the school accommodating and providing education to the current 280 children, go directly to the school, and are tax deductible.

The Maleny branch supports 'Interact', a teenage service club (Maleny SHS won the District Trophy) and Maleny Rotary Club is also considering forming "Rotoract" a sevice club for ages 18 to 30 (enquiries to Rick Page 5494 2666).

Maleny Rotary Club is delighted to have joined MDSRC and to be participating in the community efforts in creating the sporting and recreational facilities planned for the Precinct.

They recently presented MDSRC with a perpetual trophy to be awarded annually to the outstanding 'Young Sportsperson of the Year'.

It is Maleny Rotary's 50th Anniversary on 29th April 2009 - This special occasion also marks, to the day, the 50th anniversary of the inaugural meeting of the Maleny Rotary Club in 1959!

The celebrations will include the launch of a new book by local historian turned author Jack Wilcox;
" Rotary in Maleny - 50 Years of Service", at Tranquil Park on Wed 29th April.

Four years of research and hundreds of interviews have resulted in this must-read, fascinating historical journey, told through the recollections of a wide cross section of Maleny residents.    Rotary International is 103 years old in 2009 and justifiably recognised as a major privately funded charity, and for integrity in its operations, reflected in the four way test to which all Rotarians commit their dealings:

1. Is it the truth?
2. Is it fair to all concerned?
3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

One of the International projects Maleny Rotary is most proud of is the worldwide PolioPlus program which has eliminated the terrible polio virus from all but 4 countries in the world.   This is a massive achievement.   Recently the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation gave $255,000,000.00 to Rotary International to help in this fight.
